After faced with a bone or skull bigger than the viewer, most people of any age admit to a fascination with paleontology. From its beginning this
science has also attracted a hefty degree of pure speculation. What did these critters look like, how did they live, what color were they, etc., etc.
What science couldn't answer, fiction attempted to bring these beasts to life whether in print or on the screen. Then came along the television
documentaries geared to different audiences. And, of course, there are the scientific works. JM's bibliography can only scratch the surface, but it does
make an attempt.
To make sense of what you're reading, you need to know the terms. JM has also put together a short dictionary of paleontological and geological
words and phrases frequently used to describe our critters and their habitats. Do check it out if you find yourself stumped on a word or two.
Finally, we couldn't let this pass with contributing some of our speculations -- thus our essays and musings.
